Fabrication Fundamentals

The purpose of this unit is to provide students with an opportunities to become oriented to the fabrication lab. Fabrication covers a variety of issues relative to the planning, selecting materials, and fabrication of materials to make the structural and mechanical components of a robotic system. Students will build skills in safety procedures, planning and layout and materials processing. These skills are essential for their success in the final design challenge in Unit 5 of the course. This unit is divided into three topics. 

 Sketches, drawings and video demonstrations are used to illustrate the tools, skills and methods.

Topic 1: Fabrication Safety
